With no other way to reach out, Autumn considers pulling the fire alarm. Autumn decides to pass the time with Dax. Friday night passes without anyone coming back for her. Though Autumn knows little about Dax other than the rumors, she is relieved for the company. Dax Miller, who has a less-than-stellar reputation at school and is a mystery to Autumn, is locked in with her. She has hidden her illness from her friends, fearing that they would treat her differently.Īutumn's anxiety rises in the locked library when she discovers that she is not there alone. Undoubtedly, her anxiety is a problem in many situations. Her friends do not know that Autumn is coping with extreme anxiety, kept mainly in check with medication. But, her friends all assumed she was somewhere else because Autumn has a habit of distancing herself without notice at odd moments. She was not worried, thinking that someone would soon discover she was missing and return for her. When she walked out into the library and tried to leave, she discovered the library door was locked. The lights went off while she was in the bathroom. Then, she went back into the library to use the bathroom. She recounts that when the group was leaving the library, she placed her bag in her friend Jeff's car trunk.
